Scholarship Application

PURPOSE: The MLK Jr. Scholarship Committee believes that every dream deserves a pathway—and every student deserves the opportunity to walk it. Rooted in the heart of Fort Meade, Florida, our mission is to empower African American students who reside in Fort Meade, FL, to pursue higher education by breaking down financial barriers and building up confidence, community, and courage.

We are committed to inspiring the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers by providing scholarships, mentorship, and resources that reflect the brilliance and potential within our youth. Through this organization, we aim to cultivate a culture of academic excellence, self-belief, and civic responsibility—ensuring that no student’s future is limited by their zip code or circumstances.

OBJECTIVE: To empower residents through access to higher education by providing need-based and merit-based scholarships that reduce financial barriers and foster academic achievement. We are committed to cultivating a community of learners, leaders, and changemakers by investing in individuals who demonstrate potential, perseverance, and a passion for giving back. Through our scholarship program, we aim to promote educational equity, strengthen our local workforce, and inspire a culture of lifelong learning. To encourage potential graduates to strive for academic achievement.

Criteria

  1. Recipients should submit a completed application to the Scholarship Committee.

  2. The recipient should submit three (3) letters of recommendation: one from a person in the community (exclude relatives), one from school personnel, and one from his/her pastor.

  3. The recipient must submit a copy of the letter of acceptance from the school they are attending.

  4. The recipient must use scholarship funds within four months after receiving them.

  5. All applicants must live in Fort Meade.

  6. The financial award will be forfeited if the recipient is not in attendance at a higher learning institution after one year of graduating.

  7. Each recipient will be notified of the award by letter after graduating from high school.

  8. All recipients MUST attend the special ceremony with their parent/s or guardian/s to receive the granted funds.

  9. The recipient must submit an ID with an address (e.g., government-issued IDs (if updated with current address), a state ID card or driver’s license, or student portal screenshots showing address (if accepted).
